My Name is Dean Ritchey and I am the president and creator of AccuMusicSchool.com. I have been teaching music in some form or another for over 30 years. I graduated with a MUS. ED. degree from Burman University specializing in instrumental directing. I studied ALL woodwind, brass, percussion and string symphonic band/orchestra instruments for 5 years. My first and second practical instruments were alto sax and cello respectively. I practiced on a daily bases a minimum of 5 hours and often longer. I put myself through school by teaching private studio lessons. During my tenure in University I was actively involved in the University orchestral concert band where I played sax and trombone. I also played in the University string orchestra where I played Bass Violin for two years and cello for three. I took part in several ensembles; a string quartet where I played the cello and a sax quartet where I played alto sax. I also taught guitar courses that I developed the curriculum for in the community as well as various woodwind, brass, and guitar private studio lessons.
In 1995, I entered into a series of local talent contests. Winning the initial competition and subsequent ones thereafter lead to a finalist show down between the best talents in the province where I was awarded the winner. Shaw cable and an affiliate radio station hosted by Rich Nichols sponsored the event and offered me a record deal (that I turned down for personal reasons).
In my high school teaching career so far I have been given the coveted and extremely rarely given Award of "Superior" in local festivals in 2010 and 2015, and Silver Medal in Canada Fest for Orchestral Concert Band grade 9-12 in 2011.
I have always had an affiliation for and enjoyed working with inner city kids and have come to believe that even though they aren't on an even playing field with the more affluent socio-economic areas, my students have always competed very well and I expect nothing less than excellence. It is because of this uneven playing field that I started my website. My goal is to make learning music accessible to anyone who wants it by making it affordable to most anyone. No longer do people have to pay $20-$40 for quality high end lessons. I am currently employed as a high school Band, Guitar, choir and jazz band teacher in an inner city school as well as being the owner of this school of music and I love what I do.
